Monster the Loch Challenge
Well done to A.R.C. sculling squad 'Ddraig Dyfi'!

Congratulations to our sculling quad of Dai, Javi, Richard, Neil and cox V who took part in Monster the Loch challenge event on Saturday, September 6th on Loch Ness.

This involves racing from one end of Loch Ness to the other- a distance of about 22 miles.

Sculling quad crew member Dai said, " I am pleased to say that we completed the race in 3 hours, 6 minutes -coming in 23rd out of 124 entries and rowing 5,500 strokes!

" We did really well -conditions were pretty good on Saturday-we were fortunate to have calm water and occasionally a light following breeze."
" As a crew we were pleased with our result, but it is a tough challenge and more endurance training and some coaching is needed in future to scull competitively for 3 hours."

"It is quite an effort to travel to Loch Ness from here  - about 10 hours driving from Aberdyfi- but once there ( despite the midges!) it is definitely worth it !"

" The scenery is beautiful, the hospitality and organisation by the local hosts was excellent and there was great morale and positive vibes both within our own crew and amongst all the other competitors."

"We had a great time over the few days we were there and are already planning to enter again next year!"

" Last year we had 2 boats entered - Bob and Javi in a double scull and Alice in a single - maybe next year we can enter a full complement of A.R.C. boats and crews - Celtic Longboats, sculls and the Fish !"

" Thanks to everyone for their support over the weekend and special thanks to our own chief supporters at Loch Ness - Amanda and Winnie of course!"
